While many people who use kratom prefer to swallow capsules of the herb, there is another way to enjoy its benefits: smoking. When you smoke kratom, the herb takes effect sooner, and some people feel that certain benefits of the herb, such as its pain-relieving properties, are enhanced. If you think you may want to try smoking kratom rather than ingesting it, here are a few tips to help you have a better experience.

Look for kratom leaves, if possible.

Kratom only grows in Asia, which means all of the kratom in the United States has been shipped from overseas. Since it's easiest to ship the herb in a dried, powdered form, that is most of what you'll see in the U.S. However, there are some smaller importers who import whole-leaf kratom. If you can manage to find some whole-leaf kratom or even leaf pieces, this is what you want to smoke. It will burn more evenly and be easier on your lungs than dried, powdered kratom.

Try smoking in a pipe.

You can certainly roll kratom leaves up into rolling papers, as you would tobacco. However, if you do this, you are then smoking some paper along with the kratom. This will make the smoke harsher, and it will increase the contaminants that you are breathing into your lungs. So, if you have access to a pipe, this is the better way to smoke kratom. It's also easier to see how much you have smoked when the kratom is inside a pipe.

Start with one puff, and then wait.

Even if you have used kratom orally before, the way your body reacts to the smoke may be different. You do not want to smoke too much kratom right off the bat, as that could lead to side effects, like nausea and diarrhea. Instead, smoke one puff, and then wait about 10 minutes. See how you feel. If the effects are not strong enough, smoke another puff. You should only have to smoke about one kratom leaf per session to get the full effects you desire. But do not smoke the whole leaf at once your first time; you need to take time to calibrate your dose.

If you follow the above tips when smoking kratom, you should have a better experience. You may decide this is a better delivery route for you than taking kratom capsules, or you may not — but it's worth a try.
